Tesla Powerwall home battery system

Tesla Powerwalls are fantastic batteries, but the Tesla app only shows you Tesla devices. OhmMy brings your Powerwall together with your tariff, other devices, and smart automation. Here's how to connect it.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A Tesla account with Powerwall registered
  • The Tesla app installed and working
  • Your Powerwall connected to WiFi
  • An OhmMy account

Info

OhmMy uses Tesla's official API via OAuth2. We never see or store your Tesla password.

Step 1: Start the Connection

  1. Log into OhmMy
  2. Go to Settings > Integrations
  3. Click Add Integration
  4. Select Tesla from the list

Step 2: Authorize with Tesla

You'll be redirected to Tesla's login page:

  1. Enter your Tesla email and password
  2. Complete any 2FA if enabled
  3. Review the permissions OhmMy is requesting
  4. Click Authorize

Warning

If you use Tesla's "Phone Key" feature for your car, you may need to use your Tesla account password rather than just biometric login.

Step 3: Select Your Products

After authorization, OhmMy will show all Tesla products on your account:

  • Powerwall - Home battery
  • Solar - If you have Tesla Solar Roof or panels
  • Vehicle - We don't access vehicle data, only energy products

Select the products you want to monitor and click Connect.

Step 4: Verify the Connection

Once connected, you should see:

  • Real-time power flow (solar, battery, home, grid)
  • Battery state of charge
  • Historical data (may take a few minutes to sync)

Go to your Dashboard and look for your Tesla devices.

Available Data

OhmMy receives the following from Tesla:

Data PointUpdate Frequency
Power flowEvery 5 seconds
Battery SoCEvery 5 seconds
Daily energyEvery 15 minutes
Grid statusReal-time

Control Features

With Tesla connected, you can:

Backup Reserve

Set your backup reserve percentage:

  1. Go to Devices > Powerwall
  2. Adjust the Backup Reserve slider
  3. Changes apply immediately

Operation Mode

Choose how your Powerwall operates:

  • Self-Powered - Maximize self-consumption
  • Time-Based Control - Follow a schedule
  • Backup-Only - Save for outages

Tip

OhmMy's smart scheduling works best with "Time-Based Control" mode, allowing us to optimize around your tariff prices.

Storm Watch

Enable or disable Tesla's Storm Watch feature, which automatically charges your battery before severe weather.

Troubleshooting

"Authorization Failed"

  • Ensure you're using the correct Tesla account
  • Try logging out of the Tesla app and back in
  • Check if Tesla's servers are experiencing issues

"No Products Found"

  • Verify your Powerwall appears in the Tesla app
  • Ensure the Powerwall is online (check WiFi connection)
  • Wait 5 minutes and try again

"Data Not Updating"

  • Tesla's API occasionally has delays
  • Check the Tesla app shows current data
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting in OhmMy

Token Refresh Issues

OhmMy automatically refreshes your Tesla token every 8 hours. If you see authentication errors:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Tesla
  2. Click Reconnect
  3. Re-authorize with Tesla

Info

We're working with Tesla to implement their new Fleet API, which will provide more reliable connections. Coming Q2 2025.

Privacy & Security

Your connection is secured by:

  • OAuth2 - Industry-standard authorization
  • Token encryption - Stored securely, never in plain text
  • No password storage - We only store refresh tokens
  • Revocable access - Remove OhmMy from your Tesla account anytime

To revoke access:

  1. Log into tesla.com
  2. Go to Account > Security > Third-Party Apps
  3. Remove OhmMy

What's Next?

Now that your Powerwall is connected:

  1. Set up your tariff for cost tracking
  2. Configure smart charging based on prices
  3. Enable automations for hands-free optimization

Your Powerwall and OhmMy are now working together to maximize your energy savings!
